Conference on tackling homophobic and transphobic school bullying
On 10-11 June 2014, in Athens, ILGA-Europe organised jointly with the Greek organisation, the Smile of the Child a conference on tackling homophobic and transphobic school bullying, partly held under the auspices of the Greek Presidency of the EU.
The aim of this year’s conference was not too focus only on good practices, as we did in Dublin in February 2013 but also to identify and address barriers to further engagement and achievement. The forty participants to this conference were activists, policy makers, and representatives of teachers and students organisations and equality bodies, from 15 different EU member states.
This conference was two-fold:
On the 10 June, participants were divided in working-groups and identified barriers to further engagement and achievement during the morning. In the afternoon, they brainstormed on practical ways to overcome those barriers. On the 11 June, a panel discussion was held with representatives of the European Commission, the Council of Europe, as well as the Irish Special rapporteur on the rights of the child and Pr. D. Olweus, specialist of school bullying.

The final report is available to ILGA-Europe’s members upon request to Sophie Aujean, Senior Policy and Programmes Officer.
