Capacity-building seminar on using a norm-critical approach in education

ILGA-Europe and IGLYO (International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Youth and Student Organisation) co-organised a seminar on the use on norm-critical approach in education in Stockholm from 4 to 6 April 2014.

In 2012, ILGA-Europe launched a membership consultation in the area of education. The findings of the consultation have shown a strong need for capacity-building around education for ILGA-Europe’s membership. After a pilot-training organised jointly with IGLYO in December 2013, both organisations set up a new capacity-building seminar focusing on the norm-critical approach.

We decided to explore this approach because norm criticism has proven to be a very powerful way of addressing all kinds of stereotypes and prejudices reflected in school environments.

This seminar was organised jointly with RFSL and RFSL Undgom, both of whom have experience in working with the norm-critical approach. The seminar took place in Stockholm in RFSL’s premises.

Minutes are available for members upon request to Sophie Aujean, Senior Policy and Programmes Officer.
