Activists came to Brussels a few days after the Enlargement Package 2016 was published by the European Commission, and ILGA-Europe issued a policy paper on priorities for LGBTI rights in the region going forward. The purpose of the study visit was to engage with relevant EU institutions and bodies about LGBTI rights in the region, the particular priorities activists are pursuing in the next few years, and the role the EU can play in supporting these efforts. Activists met with representatives from the European Commission (DG Near and EEAS), EP Secretariat, as well as politicians from the European Parliament.

Participants in the study visit were activists from the Sarajevo Open Center and CURE Foundation (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Queer Montenegro (Montenegro), ProLGBT (Albania), Subversive Front and LGBTI Support Center (FYR Macedonia), Center for Equality and Liberty (Kosovo), Gayten and Labris (Serbia), LGBTI Equal Rights Association and Trans Network Balkan (regional).
