Diversity Awards 2015: time to nominate!ILGA-Europe has launched a new feature for this year’s Annual Conference: The Diversity Award. ILGA-Europe members can nominate an initiative based in Greece that they believe is doing exemplary work with those who are most marginalised both within society and within the LGBTI movement. Voting will take place during the conference and the winner announced during the final evening.

Lawsuit to be filed against ‘homophobic’ bishopSwiss LGBTI organisations filed a criminal complaint against bishop Vitus Huonder for “homophobic comments” made in a recent speech in which he quoted bible verses calling for homosexuals to be put to death.

LGBT community centre attacked in UkraineOn 30 August, unidentified men in masks attacked a community centre in the Ukrainian region, Kryvbass.The attackers threw smoke bombs at the community centre and destroyed the premises. During an attempt to stop criminals one of the centre visitors was attacked.

Knife attack on trans womanOn 4 August, a trans woman was attacked in her home in the Turkish city Afyon by an assailant wielding a knife. After the hate crime, she was treated at the hospital and the assailant was caught and arrested by the police.

Deadline coming up: how to build GSAs in school?COC-Netherlands and ILGA-Europe are jointly organising a capacity-building seminar on supporting youth to start GSAs (Gay-Straight Alliances) in schools. The seminar will take 6-8 November 2015 in Amsterdam. Deadline for applications: 1 September.

European Rainbow Families Meeting 2015 to take place in OctoberNELFA, Network of European LGBT Family Association, is organising its 4th European Rainbow Families Meeting in Oeiras just outside Lisbon in October 2015. The event is hosted by ILGA Portugal.

Odessa Equality March bannedThe Regional Administrative Court of Odessa in Ukraine banned the March of Equality that was planned for 15 August. ILGA-Europe are dismayed at this last-minute cancellation, which is a restriction of the right of freedom to assembly.

Pride not welcomed in Venice, says city mayorLuigi Brugnaro, mayor of Venice in Italy, was quoted in the Italian newspaper la Repubblica: "There will never be a Gay Pride in my city". The controversal mayor is known to have anti-LGBTI stands, when he banned books featuring same-sex couples in the city schools.

WHO policy brief: Transgender people and HIVWHO, World Health Organization, published a policy brief with essential information and on existing WHO recommendations for HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for trans people. It’s the first time that the WHO publishes a document specifically on trans people and HIV.

New publication: Violence and empowerment - Psychological support for LGBTQ personsPolish LGBT organisation KPH, Campaign Against Homophobia, has published a new resource for psychologists working with LGBTQ people.

Polish Senate votes on first-ever Gender Accordance ActOn 7 August, the Polish Senate voted to pass the Gender Accordance Act after a lengthy debate which lasted several days. However, the Act was passed with significant last-minute amendments which unfortunately could add another layer of procedural difficulty to the gender recognition process.
