EU Anti-Discrimination Directive - why?

On 2 July 2008, the European Commission proposed a horizontal anti-discrimination Directive. Find out why ILGA-Europe fully supports the passage of this Directive, and what this Directive has to do with you.

Be Bothered – European Parliament 2009-2014

Between 4 and 7 June 2009, the citizens of the European Union elected a new European Parliament. ILGA-Europe's 'Be Bothered' campaign aimed to mobilise support for human rights among the next European Parliament's candidates and to energise its member organisations and individuals across Europe to vote.

On the election day we managed to get support of 1/5 of all elected MEPs! But our Pledge stays open to other MEPs to sign it and we hope to see many more signatures!

EU enlargement

As part of the accession process to the EU, candidate countries are required to meet the Copenhagen Criteria, namely to preserve democratic governance and human rights, a functioning market economy, and to assume the obligations of EU membership. In addition, the countries are required to transpose the EU legislation into national laws and, more importantly, to implement and enforce them through the appropriate administrative and judicial structures.

The European Union's external relations

ILGA-Europe is following the European Union's external relations in terms of hightlighting the importance of LGBT equality.
