28/10/2008

ILGA-Europe’s LGBT families campaign has taken a new dimension today when Different Families, Same Love roving exhibition was launched at Vienna City Hall.

This launch preceded ILGA-Europe’s Annual Conference taking place in Vienna. The exhibition was displayed at the arcade of the historic Vienna City Hall and shall remain open for the duration of both ILGA-Europe and ILGA World conference until 6 November.

The exhibition was opened by Sandra Frauenberger, Vienna City Councillor and a chairperson of the Department for Ingetration, Women and Consumer Rights, Deborah Lambillotte, Co Chair of ILGA-Europe’s Executive Board, Juris Lavrikovs, ILGA-Europe’s Communications Manager, and Angela Schwartz from Vienna LGBT Anti-Discrimination Unit. Sandra Frauenberger in her speech said that these images speak volumes and are very necessary to illustrate the issues LGBT people are facing in an accessible way.

Vienna City Hall was pleased to launch this exhibition along with ILGA-Europe and also with the fact they were the first to host the exhibition and the contribution it will make to raising awareness, understanding and acceptance of different family models.

All speakers welcomed this cooperation and expressed their hope it will contribute to a debate taking place currently in Austria on the legal recognition of LGBT families.

ILGA-Europe has already received numerous requests for the hosting of the roving exhibition across Europe.
