ILGA-Europe Announces a Call for Partners for LGBT rights advocacy project in the Western Balkans
ILGA-Europe announces a call for partners for “Step up! Stronger LGBT movements for equality in the Western Balkans” project which will be launched from January 2010 for the duration of 3 years. The project is supported by the Open Society Institute and the European Commission.
The overall goal of this project is to improve the legal and social situation of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people in the Western Balkans.
Two specific objectives identified to meet this goal are:
- To increase/ build the capacities of the local LGBT organisations in the fields of organisational management, documentation of human rights violations and advocacy.
- To advocate at national and European level (using the documented evidence of discrimination) for improved legal protection and social acceptance of LGBT people in the project countries.
Objectives set in the project will be met through a verity of means, including trainings, coaching, study/lobby visits, advocacy campaigns, litigations, lobby meetings, etc. To be relevant the activities will respond to the voiced needs of partner organisations and meet the challenges imposed by the local contexts.
ILGA-Europe has already identified 3 main partners in the project based on their organisational capacities and experience in advocacy.
This call is to include 3 additional partners in the project based on the following criteria:
- Registered LGBT organisations or unregistered initiative groups in the process of official registration (to be finalized within the first 6 months of the project implementation) with two people willing/available to become staff members within this project.
- Prior experience and/or motivation and interest in documentation and advocacy.
- Countries eligible are: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo , Montenegro, and Serbia.
To support partners’ activities at the national level ILGA-Europe will provide in total 22,500 € (starting with 5000 € for the first project year) to each partner selected through this call during the course of 3 years.
The applications will be reviewed and the decision will be made by a panel of ILGA-Europe staff and board members within one month from the time of the announcement of this call.
