On 11 June 2011, two very different Pride events took pace in Europe: the very first pride event in Split (Croatia) and EuroPride in Rome. ILGA-Europe’s representatives took part in both events which clearly showed what different realities lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people in Europe live in. While Rome was a massive celebration of diversity, the event in Split turned violent and demonstrated inability and unwillingness of the police forces to ensure safety and to prevent violence.

On 11 June, EuroPride 2011 will culminate with a Pride March through the central streets of Rome. ILGA-Europe will be participating to show its supports to this March.

The 3^rd edition of The Equality Pod was recorded at the European Parliament and this time we examine the issue of mutual recognition (or the lack of it, to be more precise) of same-sex families among EU countries.

On 18 May 2011, the European Commission proposed a package of legislative measures to strengthen victims’ rights in the European Union including a proposal for a new directive establishing minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime which would improve the existing Framework Decision on the standing of victims in criminal proceedings (2001.220/JHA).

This year’s marking of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) was the so far most extensive from a European level point of view and from ILGA-Europe. There was a lot of buzz, events and statements – so here is a collection of who said what and what ILGA-Europe did.
