Health
The legal issues related to the health of LGBTI people are issues that ILGA-Europe works on in several different capacities.
“Everyone has the right of access to preventive healthcare and the right to benefit from medical treatment under the conditions established by national law and practices.” - Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, adopted in Nice, December 2000, entered into the force of law December 2009 under the Lisbon Treaty.
ILGA-Europe focuses its efforts on the need to obtain and disseminate accurate information concerning the issues related to LGBTI health. We advocate equal access to health services and non-biased treatment for all people, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.
We conduct targeted research to inform LGBTI people of their rights under EU law, as well as providing lawmakers the information necessary to make informed, well-reasoned decisions related to health policy. We aim to strengthen civil and political awareness of the relevant issues while recommending courses of action to be taken at the EU and national levels.
