One aim of ILGA-Europe's work is to build the capacity of the partners to do strategic advocacy.
The planning sessions guide participants through defining advocacy for their organisation, prioritising problems suitable for addressing with advocacy methods, formulating advocacy objectives, identifying key audiences, and defining activities. Often additional sessions are done on principles of effective communication and effective documentation of human rights violations depending on need.
The training output is a 3 year organisational advocacy plan with two or three main objectives such as ensuring that non-discrimination principles are embedded in domestic legal system or on improving understanding of sexual orientation and gender identity among the general public.
ILGA-Europe have so far conducted such sessions with Labrys (Kyrgyzstan), LiGA and For Equal Rights (Ukraine), Inclusive Foundation (Georgia), We for Civil Equality (Armenia), Gender and Development (Azerbaijan) and Amulet (Kazakhstan).
