ILGA-Europe's EU Accession network
In the past years ILGA-Europe closely worked with the LGBTI activists from the Western Balkans and Turkey to advocate for the rights of their communities in front of the European Institutions. At the same time ILGA-Europe provided a platform for LGBTI activists from the region, through a number or capacity building events, to meet, share and learn from each other’s experiences of advocacy at national and European levels.
To further this work and to capitalize on the work done within EU network of ILGA-Europe , we have decided to launch an EU Accession network which will aim to bring selected LGBTI activists from the organisations based in the Western Balkans and Turkey in a one day meeting before the start of ILGA-Europe’s Annual Conference in order to share and discuss issues related to European legislation and policy as applicable to candidate and potential candidate countries for EU membership, potential advocacy opportunities provided by the European institutions and EU accession process and to coordinate advocacy and lobbying actions.
The first EU Accession network meeting will take place on 26 October 2011 in Turin. Half day of the meeting will be combined with the EU network meeting.
