Jean Lambert MEP
As a longstanding campaigner for LGBT rights and member of the European Parliament Intergroup On Gay And Lesbian Rights, I am extremely pleased to endorse the ILGA pledge. I hope all candidates will also do so.
We have seen major progress on LGBT rights, not least at EU-level, with the adoption by the European Parliament of Dutch Green MEP Kathalijne Buitenweg's report which extends protection against discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation beyond the labour market to goods and services. The next Parliament must keep the pressure on both Council and Commission to put this into law.
But there is so much more that needs to be achieved, in terms of employment, access to services, discrimination and cultural attitudes. We need much more progress in Eastern Europe and internationally, and ILGA are leading the way.
If I am re-elected as London's Green Party MEP, I will continue to speak out on these issues - as I have done for the past ten years. See also http://www.jeanlambertmep.org.uk/news_detail.php?id=447 and http://www.jeanlambertmep.org.uk/lgbt for more information.
