Elected Members of the European Parliament (2009-2014)

24 of the 73 elected Members of the European Parliament from the United Kingdom have signed the Pledge:

Sarah Ludford

Liberal Democrats

Liz Lynne MEP

Liberal Democrats

As the Vice- President of the European parliament’s Employment and Social Affairs Committee I have worked for many years on the need for Europe-wide anti-discrimination legislation to ensure that lesbian, gay, bi and transgender people are treated as equals no matter where they are in Europe.

In 2006 I drafted a report for my committee on the need for new anti- discrimination legislation on the grounds of sexual orientation, religion or belief, age and disability in access to goods and services. This year I also dr...

Claude Moraes MEP

Labour

I fully support the IGLA pledge. Labour & Socialist group MEPs have worked hard to ensure that the rights of the LGBT communty in Europe are fully protected along with other groups. This year we secured that the LGBT community will be protected from discrimination across the EU in the provision of goods and services. But the fight against bigotry and discrimination does not end there and we still have much to do. I hope that the IGLA pledge will help towards when we can put an end to discrimination across the EU.

Jean Lambert MEP

Green Party

As a longstanding campaigner for LGBT rights and member of the European Parliament Intergroup On Gay And Lesbian Rights, I am extremely pleased to endorse the ILGA pledge. I hope all candidates will also do so.

The next Parliament must keep the pr...

Catherine Stihler

Labour Party

I pledge my support for equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people in Europe.

Derek Vaughan

Labour

I am pleased to sign the ILGA pledge.

Ian Hudghton

Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance

Marina Yannakoudakis

Conservative/European Conservative and Reformist Party

I have signed the pledge to demonstrate my support for LGBT rights across the European Union. However, I do not necessarily believe that anti-discrimination legislation should be generated at the European level. My home constituency of London is one of the most tolerant and accepting places in the EU if not the world; the LGBT community in the UK enjoys some of the greatest rights and protections in the European Union and I hope that by exchanging best practices we can extend these rights to cover the entire continent.
