Get candidates to commit to advancing LGBT rights if elected
European elections are a great opportunity to get candidates to commit to taking actions both at European and national level.
A concrete and easy way to do so is to ask candidates to sign the ILGA-EUROPE 2009 EUROPEAN ELECTION PLEDGE. You can easily direct candidates to the following webpage……where they can sign the pledge directly.
You should follow-up with candidates who do not sign the pledge. We encourage you to write them to ask them why they are supporting our key priorities. This information can help us all better understand the position of candidates before the elections, and afterwards if they are elected.
As organisations, you can also use the ILGA-Europe pledge to advance your own advocacy work with your national political parties. Feel free to adapt the ILGA-Europe pledge to your national context and to your own priorities for the elections in 2009.
