Krug-Karelia

Read about one of the Russian partner organisations, Krug-Karelia, which is based in Petrozavodsk.

Krug-Karelia is an LGBT organisation founded in 2004 based in Petrozavodsk, Karelia.

Its main activities include promotion of tolerance and non-discrimination towards LGBT people, seminars for students, and community-building events for LGBT people living in Karelia. Some of the recent activities include events for the Week Against Homophobia (round table with religious leaders, distribution of leaflets, flyers and stickers on the streets, work with media).

It has also published a brochure on homophobia in partnership with the Karelian Youth Human Rights Movement, which includes opinions on LGBT issues by prominent Karelian people (journalists, psychiatrists, etc.).

Krug-Karleia has also been a partner in the project Looking for the path in our strength, implemented by the Swedish NGO RFSL and funded by the Nordic Council. The project aims to create a network among Nordic, Baltic and Russian/Belarusian LGBT NGOs and through the sharing of best practices and future cooperation to strengthen the capacity of LGBT organisations in the region.
