Celebrating the Rainbow of Families in our World!
2nd International Family Equality Day (IFED), 5 May 2013, 11 AM – 3 PM, Community Centre Wollishofen, Bachstrasse 7, 8038 Zurich
Families, friends and interested parties are cordially invited to join our celebration of the 2nd International Family Equality Day (IFED) on Sunday, 5 May 2013, at the Community Centre Wollishofen in Zurich. There will be entertainment for the whole family: painting studio, treasure hunt, kids’ disco. Cake and syrup will be provided; please bring your own meat for grilling and side dishes. The event will take place rain or shine – if needed, we’ll celebrate in the hall by the lake. We look forward to a fun picnic by the lake!
Background on the International Family Equality Day (IFED)
Swiss rainbow families are growing, gaining visibility and increasingly enjoying recognition in society as part of the living diversity of family structures. But in terms of legal equality there continues to be gross discrimination.
The level of recognition of rainbow families worldwide differs widely. In some countries, those families enjoy equal rights and societal recognition, while in other countries, for example in some Eastern European and most African and Asian countries, same-sex parents and their children have to live in hiding in order to avoid severe sanctions against life and limb.
Given this state of affairs, in July of 2011 the first international symposium of LGBT family organisations took the opportunity to launch an official day for equality and recognition of all types of families: International Family Equality Day (IFED). Since then, each year on the first Sunday in May, various events worldwide celebrate IFED as an appeal for the recognition of all family forms and as a symbol of solidarity.
IFED 2013 will be celebrated in 15 countries and 40 cities worldwide
