MOSCOW, June 14 (Itar-Tass) - The European Parliament should not interfere in Russia’s internal affairs, LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said on Friday commenting on the resolution passed by the EP on Thursday.
At the same time he reminded the audience that the Liberal Democratic Party had not supported under the first reading the bill banning the advertising of homosexual relations among minors, criticized by the European Parliament, “as this is exactly what it triggered - propaganda”. “We were provoked to pass that law - allegedly banning this propaganda among minors. In fact - a squall of information,” he regrets. “But we supported it under the third reading to avoid gossip,” he added.
“And the European Union grabs hold on it. The same is with nongovernmental organizations. We don’t need such NGOs as in Syria,” the LDPR leader warned. “It is clear why they are afraid that we control nongovernmental organizations. Everybody gets money there for undermining our country,” Zhirinovsky believes.
“Let the European Union deal with Europe’s problems, it is sinking and will sink soon,” he summed up.
On Thursday, European parliamentarians passed the resolution in which they once again recommended the EU Council and the European Commission to impose visa restrictions on the officials connected with the Magnitsky case and freeze their European banking accounts. The European Parliament also advised the Russian authorities to stop registering nongovernmental organizations as “foreign agents” on the basis of the law which, owing to vague wordings concerning political activity, expands the boundaries of state control over NGOs.
Besides, deputies expressed fears over possible negative aftermaths of the Duma-passed law banning propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors, believing this may lead to discrimination and manifestations of violence against representatives of sexual minorities.
