We're happy to announce you that a new LGBT organization was registered in Romania, ACT-Q ROMANIA!

More than that, one of it's first action was to protest against an article published in a major Romanian newspaper distorting the image of the LGBT community by using unprofessional comments from a psychologist. After our letters of protest and with the support of the LGBT community and some Romanian journalists, artists and activists, the newspaper removed the homophobic comments from the online version of the article. ACT-Q ROMANIA proposed to act in support and for the rights of the LGBT community on two major directives: culture and communication.

So, ACT-Q ROMANIA will amplify the voice of the LGBT community by cultural activities and by raising awareness in the Romanian media about the real image and message of the community.

More than that, ACT-Q ROMANIA will complete the work of other LGBT organizations offering them full support every time it’s needed.

ACT-Q ROMANIA will constantly fight to promote tolerance, increase acceptance and equality for the LGBT people in Romania.

ACT-Q ROMANIA desires to continue the hard work started by RGN Initiative Group and to develop a solid and respectable organization that will make the LGBT community feel trully represented by.

ACT-Q ROMANIA proposes to:

- Discover artists and leaders in the LGBT community and to help them to be in the public eye.

- Develop in the cultural area a local movement to support the community helping to improve the image in the society (affected by the total lack of visibility during the communist period and distorted by the media in the last years). Beyond the cultural value, the actions of ACT-Q ROMANIA will have a social component contributing to education of new generations and offering the posibility of a future without fake prejudices and mentalities affected by the past.

- Become a watchdog for the Romanian media and reacting anytime the rights of LGBT people will be infringed, the image of the community will be distorted or the LGBT problems will be approached in a malicious or tendentious manner.

- Develop strategic partnerships with various organizations from the region and worldwide to increase the representation in South East Europe (countries in which the LGBT community faces the same problems as in Romania) and to facilitate the visibility of the Romanian LGBT community abroad.

About Us:
At the end of year 2009 a few gay people from Romania established an initiative group, RGN, desiring to bring on the Romanian online market information about national and worldwide LGBT movement. Our group’s first action was done on Feb 01, 2010, when we launched the website www.StiriGay.ro.

The success of the www.StiriGay.ro brought the recognition it needed in a short period, our articles being quoted by other websites with experience and tradition. The partnerships we established with various international festivals, the collaboration with various artists that visited Romania, the interviews with national or international public figures that are an honor for the community, all these showed us the utility and in short time the website became one of the leaders, overtaking the other LGBT websites on the market.

The lack and the necesity of LGBT cultural activities and initiatives, the distorted image of the LGBT community in the media, the high level of discrimination and homophobia and the lack of a professional attitude from the community determined us to evolve from a pure voluntary entity into an NGO.

So, on May 30, 2011 ACT-Q ROMANIA organization was established.
