36.6 percent of people in Lithuania would ask to replace a teacher in their child's school after learning that he or she is homosexual, a survey has shown.

Meanwhile 37.2 percent said a teacher's sexual orientation has nothing to do with teaching, the April survey by public opinion researcher Spinter Tyrimai, cited by news website delfi.lt on Thursday, showed.

26.2 percent of respondents did not have an answer.

Most often residents of smaller towns, women and those over 45 said they would ask to replace a homosexual teacher. Meanwhile, the majority of male respondents did not have an answer.

Public opinion and market research company Spinter Tyrimai carried out the survey for delfi.lt on 16-23 April and surveyed 1,005 people aged 18-75.
