In connection with Rainbow Days 2012, Lithuanian Gay League introduced its new publication “Changing Faces”. The book focuses on Baltic Pride 2010, the first Pride to be held in Lithuania, presenting articles on and photographs from the event.
The book on the one hand looks at the Lithuanian media landscape from the perspective of reporting on LGBT issues, and how it changed due to Baltic Pride 2010. The article “Fragmented subjects” written by Darja Davydova looks at the representation of LGBT people in the Lithuanian media surrounding Baltic Pride, asking for example which themes dominate this media discourse and who the voice of it belongs to.
On the other hand the book looks at the legal obstacles that had to be overcome before Lithuanian LGBT people could enjoy their right to peaceful assembly for the first time. Sigita Rukšenaitė‘s article “March for Equality” examines the process of obtaining permission to hold Baltic Pride in Vilnius and dialogues between the organizers and the municipality, the police and other authorities.
The publication has been supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Flemish Government and the ILGA-Europe documentation fund.
