Gay rights activist praises equal opportunity minister
Idem to push civil unions in Italy
Rome, May 10 - Gay rights activist Imma Battaglia praised Italy's new equal opportunity minister, Josefa Idem, on Friday for plans to push legalizing same-sex civil unions on a national level.
"Well done, Josefa!" said the left-wing politician and president of Di'Gay Project in response to Idem's announced intention to present a bill for civil unions.
"I have always supported the same position: enough with second-class couples and citizens. Whatever the formula is, the result must be equal rights," said Battaglia. "Thus I am perfectly aligned with Minister Idem's comments.
Ideological fights don't interest me, but rather equality for all citizens in terms of State rights and duties.
