Marriage Equality is getting closer

Submitted by Seta

In Finland, March 19, 2013 is a historic day. A movement for marriage equality started to gather names to a popular initiative in favour of equal marriage. The name of the campaign is Tahdon 2013 which means "I do 2013".

Within the first 11,5 hours, the initiative has gathered more than 28 000 official signatures. According to a recent legal reform, all popular initiatives that gather at least 50 000 signatures within a period of six months will be taken up by the Parliament. Thus, there are six months ahead for gathering the names and already during the first hours more than half of the required amount of names have been registered.
