An information and activity center for those interested in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues - currently the only such facility in Estonia - opened its doors in Tallinn on September 23.
Operated by the non-profit organization Estonian Gay Youth, the OMA Center provides informational material as well as hosts discussion groups, workshops, film screenings and social events, the center's manager Helen Talalaev told ERR News.

"The aim of OMA Centre…is to create a safe and comfortable environment where questions can be asked and answered,” Talalaev said separately in a release.

Speaking at the opening, Minister of Social Affairs Hanno Pevkur emphasized the importance of guaranteeing security to same-sex couples and raising society's awareness of LGBT-related topics.

The center was founded with the support of Open Estonia Foundation.

An earlier information center for the gay community had operated in Tallinn for about three years, but closed in 2009, Talalaev said.
