A man has been stabbed in the chest and leg in a suspected homophobic attack during a night out in north London.

The 36-year-old was assaulted after leaving a bar near Camden Lock Bridge, Camden, at 0215 GMT on Monday and is in a stable condition in hospital.

He was approached by a group of four men, one of whom asked if he was gay.

The victim ignored him but the man returned a few minutes later and stabbed him. Police said it was a "cowardly and unprovoked" attack.

They stressed it was being treated as an isolated innocent.

But they have increased police patrols in the area, and liaison officers from Scotland Yard's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) unit have been visiting local venues.

Four men, aged between 20 and 25, are being sought over the stabbing.
