Background

Transgender Europe (TGEU) is organising a 2 day Capacity Building Seminar for trans* activists and organisations across Europe hosted by the Scottish Transgender Alliance. The event seeks to develop greater capacity and networking within the European trans* movement and is intended to promote increased effectiveness and impact of trans* activists at local, national and regional level.

The Capacity Building Seminar is generously supported by ILGA-Europe.

The seminar programme will cover the following areas:

• Dedicated space to getting to know each other, identifying the needs/ challenges/progress of trans* communities in Europe and looking at good practices and areas for improvement at national and local levels.
• Identifying opportunities and ways to move the European trans* movement forward
• Managing challenges and stresses
• How European-level instruments can help move trans* issues at local/ national level
• Different issues, different tools available in EU and non-EU contexts
• Making it happen - practical steps to move forward

Profile of participants

Participants are expected to:

• Be active in an organisation that works for the rights of trans* people or have an interest in the topic of transgender equality and human rights
• Be in a position to share the knowledge gained during the seminar in their respective networks
• Be able to communicate in English
• Be available for the whole duration of the seminar

Arrival: 10th September during the afternoon/ evening

Departure: 13th September

Travel reimbursement

Travel costs will be reimbursed by TGEU following full attendance of the seminar. The participants are expected to make their own travel arrangements by the cheapest mode of transport available. Should this exceed €200, a confirmation should be sought from TGEU prior to the booking/purchase of the ticket.

Local travel (buses, trains etc) is covered through the per diem that is provided.

Accommodation

TGEU will arrange and cover the accommodation costs from the evening of 10th September to midday on 13th September. Any other costs related to accommodation outside of these times will have to be covered by the participant.
