<p>University of Brighton’s LGBTQ Life Research Hub is proud to co-host the 18th Lesbian Lives conference with University College Dublin at the University of Brighton UK in February 2011. </p><p>The <i>Lesbian Lives Conference</i> is not just the world’s only annual academic conference in Lesbian Studies, it is now a large international event that draws speakers and participants from all continents and hosts the best-known as well as emerging scholars in the field. The conference gathers together academics, activists, performers and writers who do not otherwise have the opportunity to address such large audiences or to network across international and professional boundaries. It is also a forum for political organisation on the levels of both community activism and established international NGOs. Many books (academic and literary) and films (documentaries and dramas) are launched at this event and it is continually referenced in lesbian work and events internationally.</p><p>Lesbian Lives hosts the best-known and emerging scholars in the field, and speakers such as Kate Bornstein, Emma Donoghue, Jackie Kay, Cherry Smyth, Del La Grace Volcano, Sarah Waters and academics such as Sara Ahmed, Terry Castle, Laura Doan, Lillian Faderman, Sarah Franklin, Clare Hemmings, Alison Hennegan, Sally R. Munt, Eve Sedgwick, Helena Whitbread, Bonnie Zimmerman among many others have contributed to the conference over the years.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Already confirmed speakers for 2011 include <b>Ali Smith</b>, <b>Joan Nestle</b> and <b>Rose Collis</b>.</p><p class="MsoNormal"> </p><p class="MsoNormal"><b>A call for papers and workshops is now available from the Lesbian Lives website</b> where you will also find further information about this year's invited speakers and updates about the conference.</p>
