LGBTT demonstration in Bursa could not be carried out as the police locked the LGBTT protestors in the building where the asssociation resides. Bursa soccer team fans are violently try to hinder officially allowed LGBTT parade.
The LGBTT demonstration which was arranged by "Rainbow Solidarity and Cultural Association for Transgenders, Gays and Lesbians in the city of Bursa", the second legally registered LGBT organization in Turkey, uncover the homophobia and transphobia in Turkey again. A group of LGBTT activists went to Bursa today to protest against the governments attempt to shut down the association because of its threat to public morality. The demonstration was arranged to start at 14.00 pm, but at 13.30 pm, approximately 200 - 250 people from Bursa Tradesman Association and fans of Bursa soccer team went to the Rainbow Association's Center and started protesting group. They threw rocks to the windows, shouted, "we dont want queers here", "we don't want to see freaks". Our friends are still confined in Rainbow's center and police officers says that they won't allow our friends to go out till security is provided again.
Yesterday, Fevzinur Dündar, the director of the Bursa Tradesman Association, on behalf of his association and supporters of football team of Bursa, in his speech to the press, said: “Bursa is the city of Ottoman Sultans and religious men. This city does not deserve to be humiliated by these people outside/against society and by their meetings. We will surely hinder them from walking. Nothing is done for this meeting in legal terms, however, we will socially stop them, we will prevent them from walking. Bursa is not a kind of city where damned people with vague identities wander around. I speak to Security units, to the Governors and politicians, if they do not want them to be lynched, they make their attitudes and behaviors clear. We displaced our routine meeting at 16pm before every match to the meeting place of homosexuals at the same time of their manifestation. We will not allow 300 people to walk in a huge city, Bursa; we will be 5 thousands people around. If they want to walk, they come and walk.” By making this speech, he exiged the annulment of the meeting, threatened to “lynch”, and invited people of Bursa to react.
We'll gonna let you now further about the events as soon as we'll figure out. We hope nothing worser will happen.
