On October 5 transman Justus Eisfeld filed a complaint to the Dutch Equal Treatment Commission about the University of Amsterdam refusing him a new diploma in his new names after his change of gender registration. The university justified this by saying they never do so, out of fraud prevention and the law does not allow them to act differently.
The ETC however judged Eisfeld to be in his right and thus to be discriminated against indirectly: a general rule is especially disadvantagious to a certain group. To issue a diploma change or not is in the university's discretionary competence. The Dutch minister of education after reading the sentence concurred with the Commission's judgement.
Transgender Network Netherlands calls upon all university graduates to change their papers and mention all trouble they have or have had with this to us.
