YES, to the repeal of the adoption ban! Day of action for the universal right to adoption, Saturday, 7 May 2011, 15:00, Bern, Federal Square
Let’s send a strong signal for the right to adoption in registered partnerships and for an end to the discrimination against rainbow families.
• Rainbow families have been waiting since 2010 for Parliament to respond to the submitted petition “Equal Opportunities for All Families”, which demands the right to adoption.
• There are, furthermore, two motions pending in the National Council. Member of the National Council Katharina Prelicz-Huber (Green Party) demands the repeal of the ban on adoptions for registered partners, whereas Member of the National Council Mario Fehr (Social Democrats) focuses on the right to adopt the child(ren) of one’s domestic partner. The Federal Council recommended both motions for rejection.
• On 5 May 2011, the first public hearing in Federal Court will be held on the issue of adoption by a co-mother in a registered partnership!
Now it is crucial to show up in force and give a face to our concerns: The right to adoption is a genuine need for rainbow families. The current situation disregards the best interests of the children and discriminates against gay, lesbian and other alternative family structures!
The right to adoption for rainbow families concerns all of us! It represents an important step on the road to equality for gays and lesbians.
Show your solidarity with the rainbow families and be there on 7 May!
