Shortly the citizens of Slovenia will decide at the public referendum on human rights of same-sex couples and their families
Slovenian Family Code adopted in June 2011 is going to be voted on at the public referendum in a few months. This is a decision brought by the Constitutional Court of Republic of Slovenia and announced on 27 December 2011. In September 2011 the National Parliament asked the Constitutional Court to make a decision whether the public referendum on Family Code is against the Constitution of Republic of Slovenia or not.
The initiator of the referendum is the catholic church association »Civil Initiative for Family and Children's Rights«, who is strongly opposing the new Family Code, because it gives equal rights to same sex couples and families. The »Civil Initiative for Family and Children's Rights« is now intensively collecting the 40.000 citizen's signatures, which they need to submit to the national parliament in order to demand a referendum, after the Constitutional Court gave its official approval to referendum. In their massive campaign against human rights and equality of gay and lesbian couples and their children they are using explicit homophobic propaganda and hate speech.
