Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is prohibited in the areas of employment, and provision of goods and services.
Legal gender recognition of trans people
Romania has administrative procedures to obtain legal gender recognition - however only after compulsory sterilisation and compulsory divorce.
Partnership recognition
Romania does not provide any legal recognition of same-sex partnerships.
Parenting rights
Neither joint nor second parent adoption is available to same-sex couples in Romania.
Criminal law on hate speech/crime
Sexual orientation is included in the law on hate and violence, and is recognised as aggravating factor.
Freedom of assembly/Pride events
Pride events have taken place with authorisation, however LGBTI events have been banned in 2005 and 2006.
Criminal law on age of consent
The age of consent is equal for all sexual acts.
