An annual gay parade on Saturday in the southern Polish city of Krakow was attacked in the main market square by a rival demonstration of young nationalists.

Police used tear gas to disperse a group of some 150 right wing youths attempting to block the gay and lesbian tolerance march and detained 14 of them.

More than 400 people took part in the march from Wolnica Square to main market to promote tolerance for gays and lesbians. Some held banners with the words, "I am your neighbor”, Human rights are our rights”.
