Campaign Against Homophobia (KPH) has the New Executive Board

On July 18, the KPH General Assembly selected a new governing body for the association. Tomasz Szypuła is the new president, and the composition of the board has also been expanded to include new positions.

On Sunday – marking the end of the European Days of Equality, "EuroPride" (18 July 2010) – at the KPH (Campaign Against Homophobia) headquarters, members held a General Meeting of the Association. In addition to selecting a new governing body, the Assembly passed a two-year work plan of the association, adopted a course and financial report for the year 2009, discussed events relating to EuroPride and Pride House, organized by KPH.

Members of KPH selected a new, eight-member board for the 2010-2012 term, comprised of:

Agata Chaber - Secretary
Robert Biedroń – Board Member
Gregory Czarnecki – Board Member
Mirosława Makuchowska – Board Member
Alena Shumchyk – Board Member
Sandra Wiktorko – Board Member

A three-member Audit Committee will oversee the Board’s work. Its chairman is Daniel Michalski – coordinator of the Szczecin KPH branch.


Information about the new KPH Board Members:

Tomasz Szypuła – studied journalism and social communication at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (1999-2004). He is a graduate of the School for Human Rights at the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (2006), as well as the School for NGO Leaders (2007). He is the originator and coordinator of the first edition (2004) of the Cracovian Gay and Lesbian Cultural Festival, “Culture for Tolerance”, part of which included a march for tolerance. He is also a member of the informal Initiatives Group for Civil Unions as well as the board of ILGA-Europe.

Anna Urbańczyk – a Tri-city journalist, cultural programs organizer, human rights activist, and a graduate of cultural studies. She has been with KPH since 2004, now as a board member and Tri-city coordinator. Her main interests in the organization include cultural programs and public awareness projects. She edits texts on the organization’s portal – MultiKulti - dedicated to issues revolving around diversity and tolerance (www.multikulti.org.pl).

Robert Biedroń – doctoral candidate at the Department of Political Science from the Humanities Academy in Pułtusk. Originator and co-founder of Campaign Against Homophobia, and currently a board member. He authored the book “Rainbow ABCs”

Agata Chaber – student of psychology at the University of Warsaw. Her research interests include prejudice and dehumanization. She started her tenure as a volunteer during the Equal Right to Love festival which was organized by the KPH Youth Group. She is currently the volunteer coordinator for KPH’s Warsaw branch, and collaborates with the global umbrella organization, IGLYO. She also participates in projects having to do with promoting gender diversity and women’s rights.

Gregory Czarnecki – is the coordinator of the project, “Monitoring LGBT Discrimination in Poland”. He studied social justice and environmental protection at the University of Vermont, and graduated from EMA - European Masters in Human Rights and Demcratisation in Venice and Budapest. His master’s thesis involved a comparison of anti-Semitism and homophobia in Poland. He has been an active member of KPH since 2002.

Mirosława Makuchowska – active in KPH since 2006, former coordinator of KPH Wroclaw, graduate of sociology at the University of Wroclaw. A member for the board since 2009, she has been responsible for the development of regional branches and anti-discrimination trainings.

Alena Shumchyk – feminist, lesbian, Bialorussian (not in any specific order). She has been living in Wrocław for the past few years. She completed degrees in informatics and radioelectronics at the Bialorussian State University, but prefers working with people over computers. She is moved to activism by issues of inequality based on disability, gender, race, and sexual orientation. She is a consistent propagator of coming-out and visibility as effective tools for combating homophobia. She is also co-organizer of the Wrocław LGBT marshes and festivals.

Sandra Wiktorko – coordinator of the Poznań KPH branch. She studied Polish philology at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and is currently studying Serbian and Croatian at the same university.
