Thursday the 17th of September, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the Lithuanian Law on the Protection of Minors against the Detrimental Effects of Public Information. It a clear signal to the Lithuanian authorities and is an adding voice to the resistance against the homophobic law.

This Wednesday the 16th of September 2009, the European Parliament will discuss the situation in Lithuania regarding recently adopted homophobic legislation.

Equinet and the Lithuanian Equal Opportunities Ombudsman urge the European and Lithuanian authorities to take necessary steps to ensure the protection of the basic rights of LGBT people in Lithuania.

Today, the European Parliament’s Intergroup on LGBT Rights and ILGA-Europe sent a co-written and co-signed letter regarding the proposals to criminalise ‘propaganda of homosexual relationships’ in Lithuania.

Lithuanian Gay League (LGL) welcomes decision by the Liberals Movement Political Group of Lithuanian Parliament to file and appeal with the Constitutional Court of Lithuania concerning the compliance of the adopted Law on the Protection of Minors against the Detrimental Effect of Public Information with constitutional norms of freedom of expression and right to get information.
