EVS PROJECT “Destination – Equal Rights”
National non-governmental organization Lithuanian Gay League (LGL) now is calling for applications for the full-time volunteer position of communications officer for the project “Destination – Equal Rights” in the framework of Youth in Action Programme, Action 2. – European Voluntary Service.

Duration of service: 01/12/2011 - 30/09/2012 (10 months)
Accommodation: Volunteer will be living in the city of Vilnius. Two EVS volunteers will share one flat. Each volunteer will be provided with a separate room.
Travel/food/accommodation/other expenses – compensated by the project

ABOUT LGL
Lithuanian Gay League (LGL) is dedicated to fighting homophobia and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Most recent project implemented by LGL is the first ever Pride event in Lithuania Baltic Pride 2010 Vilnius. Our main ongoing project is “Empowering LBT Women”, focused on education and advocacy for health and human rights of LBT women. All of the LGL projects and activities are related to non-discrimination and LGBT peoples rights. EVS project is not an exception. More at www.atviri.lt
ABOUT THE PROJECT
An overall objective of the project “Destination – Equal Rights” is to bring together our knowledge and views with volunteer’s ideas, initiatives in developing new tools for overcoming homophobia and social exclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender(LGBT) people in Lithuania and Europe.
Project aims are:
- to develop new means, approaches and methods of work with local LGBT youth community;
- to strengthen and developing international cooperation and communication;
- to encourage active participation of young LGBT persons in organizations activities;
- to facilitate a learning process for the volunteer to develop practical skills, acquire knowledge, express own ideas.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Volunteer will contribute his/her work and efforts to strengthen LGBT youth and improve situation of LGBT in Lithuania. Through international communication activities volunteer will make LGBT people and their problems more visible to the international institutions, organizations and general public. Assistance on LGL youth projects coordination and activities will invite LGBT community to participate in LGL activities and be socially active, involve and take action.
Volunteer will be helping on communication activities aimed to strengthen and develop international communication and cooperation and also coordinate activities related to Baltic Pride 2012 in Riga, Latvia (communication with organizers, updating information on the webpage, organization of Lithuanian delegation’s trip to the event).
Activities are mostly related to information and communication:
- developing ideas for own project on youth work. It is up to volunteer to bring in own ideas and initiatives.
- creation of Facebook and Twitter account of LGL;
- regular update of information on websites www.lgl.lt; www.atviri.lt; www.balticpride.eu; Facebook and Twitter;
- help on communication and exchange of information with international organizations and partners, such as ILGA-Europe, IGLYO, ANSO, EP Intergroup on LGBT rights, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, ILGA, FRA etc;
- help on correspondence, replying to requests from international partners;
- data collection;
- coordination of activities related to upcoming Baltic Pride 2012 in Riga, Latvia, including communication with organizers, updating information of the webpage, organization of Lithuanian delegation’s trip to the event;
- developing ideas for future projects and activities of LGL.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
The ideal candidate would:
- be fluent in English;
- have great computer and communication skills;
- experience in editing (especially web page editing) is desirable;
- Be between 18 and 30 years old;
- Be highly motivated and creative.
