A call for a referendum against gay marriage in Liechtenstein has succeeded, and the issue will go to voters.

A petition spearheaded by a religious group called for a public vote on a law passed by Liechtenstein’s parliament.

The law recognized gay marriage, and afforded couples certain rights to pensions, immigration and other benefits applicable to heterosexual couples.

Gay couples would not be able to adopt children, however.

Liechtenstein voters will likely decide the issue in June.
