According to the organizers, 100'000 participants marched in the streets of the Olympic city on Saturday.

It rained over Turin, minutes before started this year’s national Italian Pride. But when a big rainbow made with balloons opened the marche, the clouds went away and the sun came back quickly for the start of the festa.

On Sunday, the Italian papers seemed not to agree on the number of participants : 50'000, 100'000 or 150’000 participants but the final number of participants is closer to 100'000 according to the organizers. “It makes it the most successful Pride in our country after Roma in 2000” told us Luigi Citriniti, from the Pride committee. On that year, Roma hosted the World Pride.

In the streets, 32 cars, each of them

playing a mix of disco and house music, were followed by a mixed crowd of gays, lesbians, bi, trans but also many straight people who did not come only as spectators but also to take part in the festa. Many families with young children were seen in the parade that passed alonged the historical center and also several churches.

Unprecendental Political attendance

The absence of the Mayor of Turin was not mentionned did not matter as this year's Italian Pride was surpisingly attended by two ministers from the Prodi government but also the President of the Region of Piemonte and Pouilla.

The presence of politicians made participants even stronger in their claim to ask the government presenting a project of PACS (Italian same sex partnehrsip) at the Parliament.

More successfull politicians were for sure Vladimir Luxuria and Daniele Capezzone, both members of the Italian Parliament. Luxuria, the first trans elected in a National Parliament, discussed the issue of the Moscow Pride with Nikolai Alekseev.

Both Luxuria and Capezzone said they accept the invitation to come to Moscow next May 27th for the second attempt to stage a gay pride in the Russian Capital.

On sunday, the Itlian Communist paper, Il Manifesto published a long interview with Nikolai Alekseev about the situation of Gays in Russia. Italian communist activists met in Turin did not understand the position of Russian communist against gays.

Despite what was expected, Cicciolina did not attend the Italian pride.

Moscow Pride in Turin ?

Italia had an exotic touch with the presence of the Moscow Pride banner in the streets of Turin. Thanks to our Italian friends who attended the Moscow Pride '06 festival last May, the banner that many saw at the press conference could be seen not only in the marche but also from the top a big building.

The pride day closed in a big open air party that gathered between 3 to 5 000 people all the night. Next Italian Pride could take place in Milan. Decision is expected earlier next year.

A very successfull day forthe Italian LGBT community.
