RISE of FASCIST MOVEMENTS IN VENETO

I am Alberto Citron, a gay activist of the lgbtq group Politropia of Rovigo ( politropia@gmail.com ) and I would like to expose - with the attempt not to be to involved - the following facts, so that you could read a straightforward description of what is happening in my region:

1. In Verona, the mayor Flavio Tosi (formerly fascist youth member) has nominated the head of his electoral list Miglioranzi (a self-professed skinhead) to the post of counsellor to the city's Institute for the Resistance; he has sponsorized a meeting of the fascist youth, holding the greatest attention during the parade, showing his unflagging appreciatiopn for the fascist movement, with a public address which has been highly welcomed by the partecipants. Therewas a little incident: three parà (air soldiers) who were nearby have been assaulted by three young skinheads and the factas found enough space only on the local press...but the reaction of the civil society has been absent...and the Church, so influent in Verona, has deemed to be silently not-eloquent. In 1995, the Municipal Council of Verona approveda declaration that statued homosexualityu as an abnormal condition, and obliged every public institution, depending from the Municipality, not to offer any see or any economical aid to lgbtq groups (it isworth remembering that Lega Nord and Cdu - then guided by Buttiglione - were the leading parties that presented and forwarded the declaration whih is still into force in Verona - notwithstanding the European Laws issued in support and romotion of gay people and gay couples).

2. In Treviso, the vice-mayor Gentilini (Lega Nord, formerly fascist movement MSI) has ordered - in a televised message - that the municipal poilice had intervened in order to carry out the ethnic erasion of homosexuals (called derogatorily ''culattoni'',who could have found room in other cities of the region - Padue, for example - where they could have been better accepted. No reaction from the Churchwas heard and many Italian parties were reticent about reprehending Gentilini). Arcigay was the only organization involved in the timelydefense of the rights (but in this case it is better to say dignity) of the homosexuals: the Governor of the region, Giancarlo Galan (Forza Itali) expressed his concern for the declaration of Gentilini, who returned against him with the greatest arrogance possible fuelled by the consciousness that the people of Trevisp would stand forever on his side! (Perspective which is close toreality). So that after the unbearable sentenes of August against the homosexuas, there have been December verbal aggressions against the Muslim Community, which had previously contacted a sport-courtyard owner who decided to offer a covered tennis coutyard for praying. The result has been that Gentilini contacted many politician of the Lega Nord in Rome, who strongly threatened the sport entrepreneur of negating the commercial licences necessary for his economical activity. No reaction on the side of the Bishop: fact that enlightens admirably the concept of religious freedom which is foreshadowed by the enlightened proposals of the Vatican.

3. In Rovigo, there has been an ebullience in the foundation of neofascist organizations that ouertly treatened my group in the newspapera, when we begun our activities last April. No politician defended us; Paolo Avezzù,formerly ayor of Rovigo echoed the ascist assertion that there would have been no room for an association of perverts, re-affirming ufficiously that honmosexuality is against nature, evenin the days in which a young gay was assaulted by a group of youngsters, which was animated by their firm fascist creed. I know that Rovigo is a smoothed cit, with moderate reaction to everythiong: but hte case I have just reported - and whichwas reported by ''Repubblica'', a leading Italian newspaper - has passed unnoticed by the local citizens and politician. The selfsame newspaper aggression against gays and lesbians has been repeates at the occasion of the foundation of Queerquilia - the first gay group in Treviso.

The list of aggressions agaiunst ''deviant categories'' is growing and administrators of even little contrysides are taking a geat part in this infamous process, just to earn some electoral preference, but even to re-define a new political language and sensibility which are clearly Fascist.

Youcould do a lot in order to monitorize and expose the situation of growing intollerance which has many points in commonwith the aforeseen arousals of discrimination in Poland and in Eastern Europe.
