The recent events – in which for highly dubious, “security” reasons an attempt was made in Vilnius to ban Saturday’s March – affect us deeply as well, since these unjustifiable acts were committed by the leaders of a democratic country.
Your appeal, however, has brought a new decision by the Lithuanian Supreme Administrative Court, which by once again permitting the March has offered hope and confidence to all of us: that no court or authority will fail to respect the fact that everyone deserves basic human rights, and the right of free assembly – including the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities living in the Baltic region.
We, the organizers of Budapest Pride, wish you to know that we are with you from afar, and support you. We hope that this event will only inspire you further to continue the struggle for the rights of LGBT people – which, as we can clearly see, are greatly needed.
We trust that the Lithuanian police will act in accordance with the law, and protect you.
We wish you all peace, steadfastness, and courage for Saturday’s March!
