In celebration of its 15th birthday this year, Budapest Pride is returning to its traditional summer date - thus the Hungarian LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) community is organizing its weeklong Festival from July 4-11, 2010. In addition to the usual wide range of options, the Festival’s organizers, the Rainbow Mission Foundation, are offering many new events.
The Rainbow Mission Foundation is celebrating the 15th birthday of Budapest Pride with a weeklong Festival.
Among the programs will be the one which has always been the core of the event - the film festival at the Művész cinema, where there will also be numerous roundtable conversations and workshops of interest to the community and visitors.
Last year the Festival was given a new, shorter name. The name Budapest Pride is easier to remember, links us to the capitol city, and is also a well-recognized name for foreign guests. Now the organizers have also transformed the event’s slogan - which until now has changed every year - to a simple, lasting word with one meaning for the LGBT community and every person.
“Szabad” (Free). This one word expresses everything for which the Festival and those organizing it have worked for 15 years.
The opening of the Festival will take place on July 4. The Pride March will proceed on its traditional route from Hősök tere - Kodály körönd - Oktogon - Opera - Erzsébet tér on July 10.
Our renewed Festival continues to fight for Hungarian LGBT people’s rights, visibility, and acceptance.
