New Hungarian Constitution: ILGA-Europe urges Hungarian parliamentarians to uphold European human rights standards
Next Monday, 18 April 2011, the Hungarian parliamentarians will have their final vote on the proposal for a new Constitution of Hungary. Various provisions of the draft of the Constitutions already caused serious concerns from various European institutions and human rights organisations. ILGA-Europe joins these concerns and urges the Hungarian parliamentarians not to support those provisions which do not meet minimum European human rights standards.
Budapest Pride ban overturned
Last week the police in Budapest decided to ban the Pride March scheduled to take place 18 June 2011. However this past weekend the Metropolitan Court of Budapest overturned the ban.
Budapest Pride ban must be reversed
On 14 February 2011, the Budapest police banned the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) Pride March scheduled for 18 June 2011. The reason provided for such a ban was that the Pride March will hinder the flow of traffic.

This week the 14th LGBT Pride Festival is taking place in Budapest. One of its main events is a Pride March on Saturday, 5 September. Considering the unfortunate experience of a few previous Pride Marches in Budapest which witnessed increasing violence, ILGA-Europe fully supports the right of LGBT people in Hungary to free and peaceful assembly. ILGA-Europe condemns any attempts to limit this right by individual Hungarian politicians.

Sign the petition against violence during Budapest Pride
On 5th July 2008 Pride was held in Budapest. Regrettably the event was the most violent in the country's history. The participants and police were attacked by right-wing extremists throwing Molotov cocktails and acid leaving ten people hurt.
Budapest police chief bans LGBT Pride March
On 11 June 2008, Dr. Gábor Tóth, the Budapest police chief, banned the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Pride March scheduled for 5 July 2008. The reason given is that the Pride March will hinder traffic.
Hungary approves partnership legislation
Hungary's parliament has approved the Registered Partnership Act. From January 1st 2009 lesbian and gay couples will have almost identical rights as married heterosexual couples in common law.
