To whom it may concern,
We are addressing you regarding the report of the international organization for protection of human rights Human Rights Watch, about the campaign of torture and murder against gay men by the „police“ of the religious extremist in Iraq.
In the report based on the research made in April of this year it's stated that Islamic police has killed hundreds of gay men while Iraq authorities have done nothing to stop it. The corpses were thrown in the garbage or hanged in the streets as warning.
We demand, as well as various international organizations, of the Government of Iraq to immediately stop the killing based on sexual orientation. On Thursday, the 20th of august of 2009, the Team for Legal Changes of Iskorak and Kontra and Women's Network of Croatia will submit a petition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, to, on behalf of the Republic of Croatia and by the ambassador of Iraq responsible for the Republic of Croatia, call on Iraq's government to act urgently to stop the killing based on sexual orientation.
After submitting the petition, there will be public assembly in front of the Ministry, on Zrinjevac. Activist of the Team for Legal Changes of Iskorak and Kontra and Women's Network of Croatia will light candles for all the victims of the support of the national authorities of Iraq to the religious extremism.
