The project Deafening silence: The Case in my school targets mainly the young LGBT students of Bulgaria. The project aims to promote positive change in high school administration and management in 15 high schools in Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna. The project’s activities also target the educational institutions, the youth and students in Bulgaria and the general society.
The project is financially supported by MATRA Small Embassy Projects Program, Royal Netherlands Embassy in Bulgaria. The duration of the project is March 1, 2007 – March 1, 2008.
The project started with an Opening Session, where all school management, psychologists and representatives of the Ministry of Education were invited to join.
The survey process will take place in the participating 15 high schools and will be mainly done by the local coordinators. The collected data will then be analyzed and the survey findings will be used as a basis for development of training pack.
Based on the findings, the project implementers will be able to develop adequate and crafted feasible training to deliver to both the high school management and the pupils in the target group. Training on inducement of antidiscrimination policy, reporting formats, diversity management system will be delivered.
The major component of the project following is the Case Studies: review on the spot of diversity (going out to Roma ghettos, visualization examples of the disabilities issues, etc.). In addition to this, students with the support of Gemini and other schools’ students will then develop initiatives to manage diversity, tackle discrimination problems and the findings of the survey in the school.
The ready projects and the survey findings, best practices, including the actions plans developed and the project concept will then be published in a book, distributed to other high schools and universities.
During the Closing Session a Diversity Champion will be awarded, selected from all involved in the project high schools.
