(Reuters) - Belgium moved closer to becoming the third European Union member state to grant homosexual couples equal rights in adoption when its lower house passed a controversial bill early on Friday.

Tomorrow the Belgian Federal parliament will be called to vote on the proposed law to allow adoption by same sex couples. ILGA supports same-sex partner's entitlement for joint adoption and produced a TV advert on same-sex adoption.

The Belgian parliamentary committee has approved the proposal affording gay and lesbian couples the right to adopt children. The motion was passed with 9 votes for and 7 against.
