Lilit Poghosyan is responsible for ILGA-Europe’s capacity building and advocacy work on the Western Balkans and Turkey and policy work on EU enlargement.
Lilit’s particular role is to manage ILGA-Europe’s projects that aim to strengthen the advocacy and organisational capacities of local LGBT organisations in the Western Balkans (‘Take Action’, ‘Step Up!’ projects). She also monitors accession and pre-accession countries’ compliance with their human rights obligations under the partnership agreements with the EU; submits regular reports to relevant officials in the EU institutions on the human rights situation of LGBT people in the Western Balkans and Turkey; participates and contributes to the consultations with the European Commission on Progress Reports, organizes study visits and trainings for LGBT human rights defenders.
Background
Lilit holds a BA in Psychology and Education, and holds an MSc in Human Rights from London School of Economics. Before joining ILGA-Europe, Lilit worked at Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) where she coordinated mental health projects in Kashmir/Pakistan, Zambia and Uganda and conducted an assessment of the humanitarian situation in the Internally Displaced People’s (IDP) camps in north Uganda.
Lilit joined ILGA-Europe in October 2008.
