Lesbian Group Kontra (Croatia)

Sanja Juras is coordinator of the Legal Team of two LGBT organisations from Croatia - Lesbian Group Kontra and Iskorak that provides direct legal help to victims of hate crimes and advocates for better legal protections for LGBT people (since 2002). She is also a coordinator of the Women’s Network of Croatia – feminist political network that consists of organisations from different parts of Croatia, member of the European Women's Lobby (since 2007). She advocated for and created numerous bills and amendments to laws and legal documents in regards to LGBT and women’s rights, adopted by the Croatian Parliament. The result of the adoption of these amendments was introduction of first legal protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation (2003), gender expression (2006) and gender identity (2008) into the Croatian legal system and the implementation of the definition of hate crimes into the Croatian Criminal Code (2006) and its improvement (2011). She initiated numerous street actions, new programs and activities (public campaigns, Pride events in Zagreb and Split, lesbian festival, social activities, guerrilla actions, street rallies etc.).
