ILGA-Europe organises its first International Day against Homophobia lecture in Brussels

16/05/2008
ILGA-Europe is marking the International Day against Homophobia (17 May) by introducing its first annual lecture. The lecture is organised jointly with the International Law Association (Belgian Branch). Each year the lecture will cover different subjects and the first lecture will address the issues of legal recognition of LGBT families in Europe.

The first annual IDAHO lecture entitled "Different Families, Same Rights?" will take place at 18:00 on Friday, 16 May 2008, at the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts: Het Rubensauditorium, Academy House, Hertogsstraat1, Brussels B-1000.

Lectures:

  • Dr Loveday Hodson (University of Leicester, UK) and
  • Dr Matteo Bonini Baraldi (University of Bologna, Italy)

The lecture will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Machteld De Metsenaere, RHEA - Centre for Gender & Diversity, University of Brussels VUB.

Dr Loveday Hodson and Dr Matteo Bonini Baraldi are the authors of the two reports on LGBT families ILGA-Europe produced in December 2007 and launched at the conference on LGBT families in Ljubljana in March 2008. Both reports("Different Families, Same Rights? Freedom and Justice in the EU: Implications of the Hague Programme for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Families and their Children" and "Different Families, Same Rights? Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Families under International Human Rights Law") are available on our website's publications section.
