Annual conference – celebrating families and 10 years of ILGA-Europe!
Between 26 and 29 October 2006, over 200 delegates from all over Europe will gather in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia for the ILGA-Europe’s 10th annual conference (ILGA’s 28th annual European conference). The conference theme is “We are Family – Our families in Europe and the European family.” The main focus of this conference is twofold – celebrating the diversity of families and celebrating the 10th anniversary of ILGA-Europe.

ILGA-Europe publishes a Toolkit on organising Pride events in hostile environments
This Toolkit is a response to hostile and violent opposition to the first lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Pride events in some Eastern and Central European countries during last few years.

Latvia finally bans sexual orientation discrimination in employment
Yesterday the Latvian Parliament voted to support an amendment to the country’s Labour Law to explicitly ban sexual orientation discrimination in employment. Until yesterday, Latvia was the only member state of the European Union which failed to comply with provisions of the 2000 EU employment equality directive requiring EU member states to protect employees from discrimination based on their sexual orientation.

Leading Gay Rights Organisations Join Premises
ILGA, the International Lesbian and Gay Association and ILGA-Europe, its European Region, moved into shared premises in Brussels last July. Both NGOs had been operating in the European capital for a number of years but occupied different spaces in the city.

European Parliament puts homophobic bullying on its agenda
On 13 September 2006, a Report on Social Exclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young people was launched in the European Parliament.
