Report by the European Policy Centre on a meeting on Turkey and the EU
Summary:
Turkey has made impressive political and economic progress in preparing
itself for EU membership, but needs to keep up the pace of reform,
speakers agreed at a joint EPCTÜSIAD Policy Dialogue on
Europe’s challenges and Turkey’s role. While some speakers stressed
that Turkey was a ‘natural’ European country and its membership would
bring Europe considerable benefits, others pointed to the need to revise
the country’s Penal Code and solve the problems over Cyprus first.
