“OSCAR WILDE. HOMOSEXUALITY & HOMOPHOBIA THROUGH THE CENTURIES”

Conference with the participation of Merlin Holland, grandson of Oscar Wilde. This

Moscow gay and lesbian festival will take place exactly 111 years after the culmination of the trial of Oscar Wilde who was sentenced on 25 May 1895 to two years hard labour. Even though so much time passed, homophobia is still rife in today’s society. Merlin Holland will take part in the presentation of two books, one of them being a Russian version of “Trial of Oscar Wilde”. He will also take part in other cultural events in commemoration of his famous grandfather.

DAY OF SCANDINAVIAN HOMOCULTURE

As part of Moscow gay and lesbian festival there will be seminars, exhibitions and other cultural events dedicated to Scandinavian and Russian homoculture. The event is being held by the Swedish organisation.

 

1st INTERNATIONAL IDAHO CONFERENCE

Friday and Saturday until noon, 26-27 May 2006

IDAHO stands for International Day Against Homophobia. Created by Louis-Georges Tin, world expert in the issues of homophobia, for the first time a conference of

IDAHO will take place with the participation of delegates from 40 different countries. On the occasion of the 2nd IDAHO Day, on May 17th 2006, a special focus will be made on Russia.

Co-Presidents of IDAHO Moscow conference are Louis-Georges Tin, Dr. Robert Wintemute, one of the leading world experts in sexual orientation discrimination issues and Nikolai Alekseev, lawyer, expert on legal aspects of homosexuality.

Scientific committee for this IDAHO conference includes Evgenia Debryanskaya, founder and leader of Russian lesbian movement, Igor Kon, Russian specialist in LGBT psychological and anthropological issues and Andrey Kvakin, professor of history in Lomonosov Moscow State University.

This IDAHO conference in Moscow will host specialists in sexual orientation issues and public figures, both from

Russia and from abroad, International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA), members of the European Parliament and representatives of the Council of Europe.

1st LGBT MOSCOW PRIDE

The first ever Moscow LGBT pride march is scheduled on the day of the 13th anniversary since the abolition of criminal prosecution for homosexuality in Russia in 1993. Announced in July this year, almost one year in advance, this event has already been actively discussed and provoked a passionate debate among Russian LGBT after Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov announced that he will ban it. Russian LGBT got unanimous support from foreign activists as well as famous politicians including Jack Lang and Michael Cashman.

The guest star of Moscow LGBT festival will be Desireless, very famous for 15 years in

Russia for the songs “Voyage-Voyage” and “John”. In Moscow she will perform her new show “La Vie est Belle” for the first time in our country.
